Most generic mineral formulations use Magnesium Oxide. In 1000 milligrams (mg) of Magnesium Oxide there is approximately 600 mg of elemental magnesium. The elemental portion is the ONLY portion that has any nutritional value. The elemental mg amount is the portion recognized as the U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance (U.S. RDA).

Although there is 600 elemental mg available – no more than 9% of generic formulas actually makes it past your stomach acids to be absorbed in your blood. That only leaves a maximum of 56 mg now in your blood.

Generic formulas do not have the necessary carriers to effectively deliver the Magnesium from your blood into your cells.
